Rebel Meditator

By Jackie Osborne (Master realm ACADEMY)

Whenever I talk to people the first thing they ask is, “I know there's a purpose in my life but how do I find out what it could be?

I can see the anticipation and excitement  building  in their eyes as I prepare to answer their question.  As I utter the word “Meditate”. I could feel their excitement turning quickly into disappointment. This question is commonly  followed by a look of horror and  “I can’t meditate"  or "I can't quiet my mind" comment.

During my 33 year Spiritual quest, I’ve come to the conclusion that without  a meditation practice it is almost impossible to maintain heightened states of consciousness and awareness. Believe me I tried. You see, I was one of those people. Sitting still for me for more than 5 minutes at a time brought me tremendous anxiety and frustration. Then one day as I tried meditation I hear the words, "Just Sit". No expectations no clearing the mind. "Just Sit".

Meditation is a practice, your practice and as you build on your practice you become better and better at it , start by just sitting.

Why Meditate

Meditation is accumulative. Studies show that 11 hours of meditation split up into 20 to 30 minute sessions a month, regulates emotions and behaviors. Helping you achieve higher states of consciousness and awareness which you could use to tap into your higher-self, your inner knowing.

The goal of meditation is not to control your thoughts it's to stop letting them control you.

3 Steps to Becoming a Rebel Meditator

  1. Your body is your temple and you are holding a sacred space for yourself. For this reason your sitting  posture is very important. Sit on a chair or the floor, make sure your back is comfortably straight.  Don't worry about trying to quiet your mind. Sit in this position for 10 minutes a day for two weeks. Either in the morning or night but keep it consistent. You are looking to condition your body and mind to recognize that when you sit in this posture, its time to go into your sacred temple.
  2. After the two weeks are over sit for 20 minutes a day. At this point you will start to see that your mind is less chatty. You want to increase your time to 20 minutes because it takes at least 10 minutes before you get into a relaxed  state.  Do this for two more weeks.
  3. At this time you could begin working on your mind. A good way is to focus on one thing. For example your breath. I like to focus on the sound a singing bowl makes. Below is one of my favorite singing bowl videos. By now you should start to feel the rewards meditation offers as you start making it a priority in your life.
